Drinking water installation hot and drinking water installation cold
The TrinkwV (Second Ordinance on the Amendment of the Drinking Water Ordinance) of June 20, 2023 stipulates that drinking water installations (hot and cold) - the final packaging of our most important foodstuff “drinking water” - are considered water supply systems. Proper planning, construction, and commissioning of a drinking water installation is an essential prerequisite for compliance with the TrinkwV at the point of use, i.e. at the point where the drinking water is drawn off. Otherwise, the drinking water can be negatively influenced by hygienically relevant substances on the last meters, especially in buildings.
This can lead to health-relevant contamination with chemical substances (e.g. lead, nickel, copper) or contamination with pathogens (e.g.
Legionella spp. and
Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Depending on the construction and operational conditions, drinking water installations (cold + hot) are subject to notification and/or examination (§§ 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 23, 25, 26, 31 and 41 as well as 51 and 52 of the Drinking Water Ordinance). This applies in particular to drinking water installations through which drinking water is supplied as part of a commercial or public activity.
Close cooperation between all parties involved, from the planner to the installer to the contractor and other owners, including the consumer, is, therefore, an indispensable prerequisite for the hygienically safe operation of a drinking water installation. The implementation of hygienic requirements for the drinking water installation (cold + hot) is necessary to ensure the perfect quality of drinking water at the outlet fittings of showers, washbasins, sinks, and other tapping points. In addition to the maintenance and proper use of the drinking water installation, the regular testing of the drinking water plays a significant role in terms of preventive health care.
